WHAT IS PROPOSITION 65?
Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. These chemicals may be found in products purchased, in homes or workplaces, or released into the environment. This law helps Californians make informed decisions about their exposure to these chemicals.

Proposition 65 also prohibits California businesses from knowingly discharging significant amounts of listed chemicals into sources of drinking water.

Enacted in November 1986, Proposition 65 is officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.

For additional information, please visit the Proposition 65 Warnings Website.

WHAT TYPES OF CHEMICALS ARE ON THE PROPOSITION 65 LIST?
The list includes a broad range of chemicals, both naturally occurring and synthetic. These chemicals can be additives or ingredients in products like pesticides, household products, food, drugs, dyes, or solvents. They may also be used in manufacturing, construction, or be by-products of chemical processes such as motor vehicle exhaust.

The list has grown to include approximately 900 chemicals since its inception and continues to expand.

HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF?
While Proposition 65 has prompted many manufacturers to modify their products for safety, some items still contain listed chemicals that cannot be altered. Consumers should be aware of potential exposures and take precautions based on the specific chemicals and products in question.
